How to Install HP Insight Manager

Application Requirements

Functional ID “hpinsight” existed on the server, with admin privilege. The password must be non-expire otherwise HP SIM will stop working when password is changed.

  1. Login the server using ID hpinsight.

  1. Go to setup

  1. Double click setup.exe


  1. Click OK to the following message if it shows up

  1. Go to Server Manager > Features > Add Features

  1. Select SNMP Services to install and click Next

  1. Click Install

  1. Click Close upon the installation process is complete

  1.  Click Install under HP Systems Insight Manager 5.2

  1.  Go to Services snap-in, and double click SNMP Service

  1.  Click Security tab. Add comuniti strings and the host IP to the “Accept SNMP packets from these hosts”. Configure community names as below and hit OK

  1.  Click setup.exe for HP Systems Insight Manager 7.1 again

  1. Select Install and Use SQL Express if there is no external DB-server. Provide password for hpinsight, and click Next. Note: Password for hpinsight must remain non-expire otherwise the connection to HP Insight Manager will break

  1.  Wait several minutes for the SQL Server to be installed

  1. Select Custom and hit Next

  1.  Make sure HP Systems Insight Manager, OpenSSH and WMI Mapper selected (unselect the rest if applicable) and click Next

  1. Provide the password for the service account, click Next

  1.  Click Install

  1.  Click Next

  1.  Leave it blank and click Next (Administrators already have access)

  1. Grant Local Access to Administrators to both secure and unsecured pages and click Next (Port 2301 must be enabled)

  1. Select Trust All option and hit Next

  1. Review the configuration and click Next

  1. Wait for the installer to complete

  1. Click Finish

  1.  Click Next to proceed with OpenSSH installation

  1.  Click Next

  1.  Enter the service ID password and click Next

  1. Click Install

  1. Click Finish

  1. Proceed with WMI Mapper installation, click Next

  1. Accept the Agreement and click Next

  1. Click Complete button

  1. Click Install

  1. Wait for installation to be complete

  1.  Click Next to proceed with the HP SIM installation

  1. Wait while the installer runs (may take several minutes to process)

  1. Make sure that all corresponding components have been installed successfully and click Next

  1. Click Register Later button

  1.  Select Reboot option and click Finish
