Restore AIX Operation
System for P690 & P595 Unix Servers
Making AIX OS mksysb images
A cron job is scheduled to perform to make
mksysb image file saved under its local file system under
/mkdvd/<hostname>.
The format for mksysb file name is:
<hostname>_mksysb_<day of the
week>DDMMYYYY

Restore AIX OS
- Insert AIX LPAR mksysb
backup DVDRAM media into P690/P595 DVDRAM drive
- ON HMC, activate the correct profile for new
Logical Partition
- Press “1” for SMS
Menu when your hear a beep sound or see the following menu on
screen
1=SMS Menu 5=Default
Boot List
8=Open Firmware
Support 6 Stored Boot List
- Press “7” on p690 or
Press “5” on p595 for Select Boot Options.
- Press “1” for Select
Install or Boot a Device
- Press “3” for CD/DVD
Device Type
- Press “1” for SCSI
Media Type
- Press “1” for U1.9-P1-I10/Z1
on p690 or U5791.001.99203 NY-P1-C10-T1
on p595 @ SCC Media Adapter
- Press “1” for SCSI
CD-ROM Device
- Press “3” for Service
Mode Boot Task
- Press “1” to exit System
Management Services (SMS)
- Press “1” and Enter
to use this terminal as the system console
- Press “1” and Enter
to have English during install
- Press “3” to Start
Maintenance Mode for System Recovery
- Press “4” to Install
from a System Backup
- Press “1” on p690 or
Press “2” on p595 for Device
Name cdrom/scsi/scsd and Path Name /dev/cd0 of the
device containing the system backup to be installed and press Enter
- Press “1” for Disks
where you want to install
- Select “1 – hdisk0”
& “2 – hdisk1”
- Press “0” to continue
with choices indicated above
- Press “0” to install
with current setup to install the Base OS
Backup AIX image
on DVD will be restored to the hard drive and system will be rebooted when restoration is finished.
