1. Make sure ticket is opened for IBM
2. Order 2 copies of CD media from IBM or Download from IBM (Not recommended)
3. Copy the patch to dmspar07
4. If not using NFS, scp the patch from dmspar07 to the target system and run a “cksum” command against all the files
5. Pick a testing LPAR (e.g wtestpar1) to apply and verify the patch
6. Email to all project related staffs (PM, TA, ETL, DBA or QA) for upgrade activity a day before.
7. Perform mksysb OS backup
8. Make sure the last TSM incremental backup ran successfully
9. Re-run the TSM incremental backup again to backup any changes before upgrade
10. Use “wall” command to broadcast message to all log on users about the upgrade activity and system outage window
ALL USERS CURRENTLY LOGGED INTO XXX machine must stop all work - the system will be down until x PM today for maintenance activities. An e-mail will be broadcasted to confirm when this host will become available. Thank you for your attention! support
11. Shutdown all applications, un-mount all NFS
12. Check current OS level
13. Preview all file sets to be committed (# installp -p -c all)
14. Commit all file sets (# installp -c all)
15. Reboot server
16. Clone the currently running system to an alternate disk for rollback recovery purpose
17. Apply patch
18. Reboot the server again
19. Verify the OS patch level using “oslevel -s”
20. Restart all applications, mount all NFS
21. Update ServerInstallLog, IV ticket
22. Send email to Project PM to notify the upgrade task has been completed.
